Melinda Felder is still missing, has been missing since July 20, 2006, and the family could not find any answers.
Melinda Felder went missing in July 2006 with little known information about what may have happened 15 years ago.
Melinda was born in Brooklyn, NY, on March 12, 1973. Her hobbies included dance and writing her journal. She also loved traveling. Melinda loved her children, however, they were placed in foster care shortly after her disappearance.
Missing since July 2006, Melinda Felder was last seen in Conway, Horry County, South Carolina.
Melinda is a petite African American weighing 170–200 lbs, who stands at around 5’2″. Melinda has black hair (possibly reddish tent) at the time of her disappearance, brown eyes. Melinda’s piercings include a nose ring and split earlobe, but she does not have any tattoos. Melinda was wearing a jean skirt and a white shirt with a pink design on the front when she disappeared.
Melinda did not own a vehicle at the time of her disappearance. She also did not know how to drive or was even issued a driver’s license at the time she went missing. It is believed that she walked to a friend’s home on July 20 and hasn’t been heard from since then. Melinda did not own a cell phone at the time of her disappearance.
Her daughter Whitney was 15 years old at the time and remembered her mother was headed to a friend’s home but had no information if she arrived safely.
The investigation into Melinda’s disappearance led to some potential leads, leading investigators to believe she could have been in Brooklyn, New York. Investigators could not rule out if she was physically living in Brooklyn or if another party used her information.
Melinda was known to leave her home for months at a time but always returning. She would often be gone only a couple of months.
When Melinda disappeared, she left behind children that now have children of their own. She has never met her grandchildren and has since lost both her parents since she has been missing.
Melinda has a condition that stress or excessive heat can trigger; it concerns her family because she suffers from seizures. The family fears that she may have had a seizure, causing her to be incapacitated and healthcare providers unable to contact the family.
The DNA of close family members was placed in the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) to search if matched to unidentified remains.
Despite the fact that detectives and Melinda’s attorney have confirmed that her disability payments had never stopped being issued, they could not know for certain if all of it was accumulating or whether some went towards use.
Melinda’s mother was the last person to see her alive. The last known address available was 193 Fountain Ave. in Brooklyn, where the family lived as well. However, when investigators visited this address, no one lived there, according to investigators.
Melinda’s father passed away three years ago and has not seen her since 2006 or later. It is unknown where she has been these past few decades or her current situation, but sources place Melinda in California.
